The application of static mixers in the polymer industry is well proved to mix in or to dispergate e.g. foaming agents of low viscosities into polymer melts of high viscosities. The Fluitec mikromakro®-technology was especially developed to reduce the mixers length and its pressure drop.
A constant and perfect homogeneity is compulsory if mixing masterbatches into polymer melts. The well controlled and very high mixing performance of mikormakro-mixers allows a reduction of the additive concentration, thus leading to quick amortisation. Colour changes are completed very quick, due to the perfect self cleaning efficiency and the narrow residence time distribution of static mixers.
The high radial mixing efficiency in static mixers avoids any back-mixing effects, like they occur in empty tubes. Problems caused by depolymerisation are inhibited and the concentration of degradation products is well homogenised over the cross sectional area.
